Alexandre Lacazette's anonymous day
It wasn't too long ago that I felt like these stories could have been written about Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. He would have matches where he was totally disconnected from the rest of the team and looked to be a total passenger in possession.
That wasn't supposed to be the case with Alexandre Lacazette. His ability to drop deep, link, and play as a number 10 type player was supposed to ensure that even if he wasn't producing shots he was still adding value to the team through his facilitating of play.
That seems like it couldn't be further from reality after his performance on Saturday.
On my goal probability added measure he was a zero, doing nothing to help Arsenal score with his overall attacking play.
The overall numbers back this up as well.
Lacazette received just 15 passes in this match, none in the box. Overall he was the target of a teammate's pass 33 times, so more often a pass towards Lacazette ended up with Brighton gaining possession.
Overall he ended up 21 touches in the match, with more in the Arsenal defensive third (3) than he had in the Brighton penalty area (2).
