Arsenal KPIs - August 2022
Doing these posts are one of my favorites of the reoccurring type posts that I do. I think that they are really nice illustrations of where Arsenal are compared to expectations.
I have done some thinking previously on what I think would be a success and have mostly kept things the same for what I wrote at the beginning of the summer.
Points
Arsenal are perfect and are beating the 1.9 points per match target that I set for them.

On this measure, Arsenal are well above my expectations
Expected Goals
Arsenal expected goals figures are very good. I set a target of 1.7 for this and they are at a staggering 2.3 to start the season. For expected goals against I set a target of lower than 1.1 and Arsenal are at 0.7 allowed per match. For overall expected goals difference I set a target of 0.66, which again Arsenal are smashing with +1.6 xG difference right now.

Shots
The open play shots story is roughly the same as xG (duh they are related), I set a target of 11.4 for this and they are at 11.8 to start the season. For open play shots against I set a target of lower than 6.8 and Arsenal are at 5.4 allowed per match. For the overall shot difference, I set a target of 4.6, which Arsenal are beating with +6.4 open play shot difference right now.
Deep Completions
Deep Completions For: Target 24.8 or better, Season: 27.6
Deep Completions Against: Target 14.4 or lower, Season: 11.4
Deep Completion Difference: Target 10.4 or better, Season: 16.2

Overall
Arsenal are looking like on the best teams in the League after the first month of the season. Sure it is not the hardest schedule (19th hardest at the end of August) but I think that would be a more important measure if Arsenal were looking just okay or heaven forbid looking bad. That Arsenal have dominated the teams they faced is a good thing even if that isn't unexpected.
People are a bit down that the transfer window ended with a whimper but this was a team that had an excellent August and put them in a good spot to have a successful campaign.
