Straight into it.
Headline: Brilliant season, but falling just short
It was always a long shot today.
Manchester City are a good team, West Ham are not.
Manchester City got two early goals and that basically put things to bed and even though West Ham did get the ball into the net twice (only one that counted it never felt like it was possible as soon as a goal was scored.
That was the margin that Arsenal were dealing with here and what happens when you go up with the most dominate team in Premier League history who have built a juggernaut of a team through 15 years of major investment that have broken the financial rules of the League.
It takes a historic season from the team challenging them, and even then it can often end up not being enough. Liverpool learned this lesson the hard way and Arsenal have now felt that pain.
To the match that Arsenal played, well it was a bit of a slow burner.
Arsenal had most of the ball and dominated the territory but finding the breakthrough against an Everton team that has had a very good defense was always going to be a tough task and it proved to be that way today.
Arsenal peppered the goal with ton of shots but Everton did well to get bodies in the way of the chances and do just enough to keep the ball out of the net.
It took a late error by Ashley Young and a close judgement call on a handball to see Arsenal take advantage and go ahead here, but in the later part of the second half it did feel like it was coming with the pressure building.
There will be more time to do a post mortem on the season but I am glad that Arsenal were able to end the season with a win and a points total that reflected just how good this team has been.
It was a fun ride and I am excited to do this again in August.
