Do you think this is a kind of blueprint to stifling Arsenal or just Brighton are so good at pressing others won’t be able to do that? And the sort of lack of direct from deep buildup to attack quick strike attack isn’t a big worry. I see flashes of it on and off last few years but this was a game you needed it
I don't think that most teams are as good at pressing as Brighton are. This isn't a one of tactic that they try to implement for a single team and they drill it over and over. So if other teams try it, they probably wouldn't be able to execute it at quite the same level of effectiveness.
There have been other teams that have succeeded doing this to Arsenal (Brighton and Bournemouth especially come to mind) and it certainly can disrupt Arsenal.
I do think that Arsenal should be able to do better with this, if they want to play through it they should have the technical level to do so more often but didn't execute at near the level needed here. If they want to play over and avoid it they can do that too but chose not to here.
The biggest weakness is that Arsenal still seem to lack the ability to turn we broke the press into enough 40-50% looks at goal against a disrupted defensive structure. If they did that 2-3 times per match you could live with not being perfect on playing through everytime.
Yep that last part is what seems to me might be a separator. PSG, Barca, Bayern have the home run in attack and look for it a ton. Maybe it would take away from the high OBP/great pitching and defense approach that has Arsenal as one of if not the favorite for CL but it is noticeable
I see various comments about arsenals lack of pace on the break and to counter a high press. But Gyokeres is pretty quick. Maybe start him more against teams adopting this tactic and play it long. Arsenal defenders have the technical ability to do this as does Raya.
Yeah agreed. Arteta struggles sometimes to vary his lineups and approaches from the off. He uses what works until it doesn’t rather than being proactive sometimes. Much as I love him I still think it’s his kryptonite.
i agree that both shots were low probability. seemed to be communication errors (esp the 2nd goal) where two defenders dropped instead of one stepping and one dropping. i think that should be easy to fix on the training ground. gab and konsa especially dont have too many mins together yet

I am bummed that we haven't actually gotten to see Arsenal vs Barca lately. That would be a fascinating matchup.
Arsenal have matched up fairly well against PSG and Bayern

All three Brighton goals hit the wood and went in. That is unusual

Can i use the data in my article and of course mentioning you?
