Bruno Guimarães: Stat Scouting
Arsenal have started laying the ground work for their summer plans and that reportedly includes exploring the option of bringing in the Brazilian
Transfer season is ramping up and that means it will be time to start doing more stats scouting posts.
Today’s subject is Newcastle’s Bruno Guimarães.
This is a link with a history of being admired by Arsenal, with him heavily linked in the transfer window before he ultimately ended up with Newcastle. The reports on this transfer seem that it is one of necessity for Newcastle, who are up against the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability rules.
The report suggests he is admired by many clubs (Manchester City and PSG) and that he would not come cheap for a buyer, from the Telegraph:
Bruno is thought to have a release clause of around £100 million in his contract, although that would not necessarily prevent interested clubs from trying to strike a deal at a lower price.
This leads to the question would he be worth it for a team like Arsenal to chase?
I think the answer to that is a pretty definitive yes. He has traits that rub people the wrong way, he can lose his head during matches and turn to violence (even if it goes unpunished) but his skill is pretty undeniable at this point.
When you look at the Arsenal squad, a versatile midfielder is at the top of the wish list and that is pretty much exactly how I would describe Guimarães.
His all-around game is excellent, he has shown this now for many years as well suggesting that this is not a fluke. He could play as the deepest of the midfielders, he could play in a double pivot, he could slot even further forward. It is pretty much the ideal signing for what Mikel Arteta and Edu Gaspar are building with flexible players that can fulfill multiple roles and give opposing teams nightmares to try and figure out what and how Arsenal will play.
Let’s get into the nitty gritty a bit more here.
