Would be really curious to see Saka, Martinelli, and Odegaard’s non-pen xG+xA per 90 with Eddie starting vs with someone else starting since the beginning of last season.
Eddie’s numbers are undeniably good. But it still feels like the team is more predictable and carries less of a threat from other parts of the pitch with him on it.
Great article, Adam. I came on here to make a comment similar to Zack's, so I'll just add my own version of what he said. The main criticism of Nketiah (well, or at least mine) isn't that he doesn't produce xg for himself, but rather that he doesn't contribute to the buildup so that there is greater xg for the team, which I think is Jesus's big strength. So I guess instead of comparing his personal xg compared to the xg of others, I'd like to see his contribution to the buildup. And right now, we're sitting on 3.05 team xg after 2 games (~1.5/90), which isn't near where we need to be against NF and CP.
Also, am I the only one who thought he should have passed it to Havertz instead of chipping the keeper on that big opportunity? 😜
That pass for Havertz wasn't on at all if you watch it back in real time. He probably should have tried a different type of shot, but if he passed it would almost certainly been intercepted.
I should have added context after my post...my comment was more a tongue in cheek jab at the twitter debate going on last week after Nketiah scored. Agree w you that shooting was the correct decision yesterday. 😀
Feels like a subtweet of Scott 😂
Scott deserves a good subtweet sometimes 😂 To his credit he showed the negligible change in performance as a squad last week already lol

I don't have the ability to post graphics here, but I'll tweet out all 4 so you guys can see.
FWIW xG Buildup from 12/31/22 through 3/31/23 last season:
Leandro Trossard 0.19
Eddie Nketiah 0.17
Gabriel Jesus was 0.30 pre-injury
Thanks, Adam! Not surprised to see Jesus doing so well. Surprised that Trossard and Eddie are so close.
