There are reports out today that Chelsea are interested in Emile Smith Rowe. The transfer deadline is approaching and I guess they haven’t spent enough yet on all the under-23 players in the World.
Joking at Chelsea’s scattergun strategy aside this is an interesting rumor to think about, whether it would be to the London rivals or to another club.
Arsenal have had a hard time selling players and I think Smith Rowe typifies the situation. There has been significant interest in him from teams, with some pretty serious transfer fees attached but so far Arsenal have not felt they were compelling enough to pull the trigger on them but that might be changing.
The rumors so far have not included any sort of fee but he is probably reaching an inflection point with his value.
He is still on the younger side having just turned 23 this summer but this season is really the start of the prime years for a player in his part of the pitch. He still has a strong reputation as a promising player he earned as a youth player and has 3600 minutes of Premier League experience backed by 20 goals and assists. There is talent here and a reasonable expectation that he could reach it (or maybe even exceed it). There are a lot of positives for a team looking to talk themselves into a bid here at a pretty high fee.
