Film Study: Putting Arsenal's striker links head-to-head
Clips tell us the story of who does what the best
It’s been a long and painful road, but we’ve finally reached that point where Arsenal’s game this weekend can’t hurt us (well, we were here for a while depending on how blindly you believe my takes, haha). With the league and European campaigns all but officially on ice, that turns our attention to summer and what comes next for Arsenal.
As you likely know by now, we’ve been tracking and comparing Arsenal’s various strikers for some time. And per David Ornstein’s Q&A with readers this week, Arsenal seem to be down to two options with excellent diacritics: Viktor Gyökeres and Benjamin Šeško.
But the groundwork on this piece started long ago, my friends, so we’re adding a third name, Frenchman and would-be Henry regen Hugo Ekitike, to the mix. Frankfurt’s number nine has been adored by enough Arsenal fans and linked enough throughout the season to raise at least a reasonable question of whether Arsenal could consider him, so he’s added to the mix.
We’ve done film studies and stat scouting on all of these names already, but today we’re trying something a little different: Head to head, between all of them, in the same piece. Our goal: To show which attacker does each duty of an Arsenal striker the most effectively, ideally reaching a solid conclusion by the end.
That’s enough preamble, isn’t it? Let’s get into this breakdown.
