Gabriel Jesus vs Southampton, was it bad?
Watching back all the moments of Jesus vs Southampton
One of the storylines that developed over the course of the Arsenal vs Southampton game was that Gabriel Jesus played poorly. Some even going as far as to say that he should never play again or that he is done at Arsenal.
I don’t know exactly what the consensus opinion is but that was definitely the read of the fan opinion that I was exposed to.
When I watched the game live, I did not see that and it made me question if I had missed something. So when I rewatched today, I did so with the focus on Jesus, in fact I decided that I would clip up all of his actions in the game and put them in here so that we can all go through it.
Lets get into it.
From a corner takes a shot. A little off balance and aimed off. No problem with this decision here.
Finds a pocket of space from a high turnover and tries to find Saka. It is too high. Nothing wrong with the decision making there.
This time Saka finds Jesus in the box. His touch leaves it underneath his body, it looks aimed for the corner and draws a block (this doesn’t count as on target even though I think it is just about the same compared to the type blocked a yard or two in front of the player). It could also find Saka where he only needs a touch to tap it in without the block.
Jesus is again at the edge of the box as Arsenal win it high. He plays a quick one time pass that gets Sterling into the box. That is a nice bit of play there.
