This conversation isn’t going away, whether I like it or not.
Regardless of the cause or the adverse conditions it’s faced, Arsenal’s attack just isn’t firing on all fronts as we sit here, in mid-December, with 22 games left in a league campaign that’s been full of headaches.
This blog hasn’t shied away from evaluating individual performances, talking about what the likes of Martinelli or Trossard need to be doing better, or what team dynamics might be creating problems. But the conversation about Gabi and Leo and other Gabi and whether they’re really enough for what Arsenal are trying to accomplish continues. And that’s only going to heat up as the January window approaches.
So, Martinelli Stan or not, let’s lean into it. With that, welcome to attacker month! For yours truly, this is going to be six weeks focused on Arsenal’s attackers, potential options on the market and deeper dives into how the two compare. Hell, we’ll probably also talk about the guys Arsenal could have acquired this past summer and whether it would’ve made any difference.
With further ranking pieces and film studies to come as data comes in from this weekend, I’ll kick things off with the view from 30,000 feet: Let’s talk about where Trossard and Martinelli aren’t measuring up this season, and pick out some guys who do.
