Arsenal have explored signing Ollie Watkins from Aston Villa as they weigh up what their striker position looks like for the future

Alright now the transfer window is cooking.

With the deadline looming after the weekend, things are starting to heat up, starting today with some links to Mathys Tel from Bayern Munich (look for more on this soon) and continuing with a link to Ollie Watkins of Aston Villa. Sami Mokbel of the Daily Mail is pretty good on Arsenal news and reports that they have made a bid for the player and could continue to pursue the deal.

Aston Villa are at a bit of a crossroads where Jhon Durán has emerged as very promising striker who is looking for more playing time (with links away from Aston Villa) and they seem to need to make a decision on their future plans, maybe not exactly this window but it could happen here and Arsenal are probably right to be pushing this now.

They have Watkins and Durán, and are linked to Joao Felix from Chelsea as potential replacement for either player. It looks like something is going to happen it just depends on who it is and to where they go.

Watkins just celebrated his 29th birthday, so he is the player that is more likely to be at his peak value for Aston Villa but he is also the more established player as they fight to keep progressing in the Champions League and fight for a European place in the League.

For Arsenal, this probably isn’t the ideal age to be signing a player but with the injury-ravaged depth, the perfection of fit is perhaps a secondary concern to purely having the required number of high-quality players needed.
