Agreed, would settle for £30m. Just think for someone who can lock down a side of a defence in the Premier League (lack of attacking contribution notwithstanding), Arsenal shouldn’t be approaching it as if they’re cutting and running even if he isn’t favoured anymore
I agree with all the arguments in here about selling - I think the biggest gripe for most people is the projected fee. For the talk to be about Arsenal being happy if they don’t make a loss, on a player who is comfortably Champions League calibre, sounds crazy to me.
I do think there’s some wiggle room to that comfortably CL statement, but let’s not forget Zinchenko was just £30m. I don’t think they’re looking for £26m, but even £35m would be on par with a club record sale for a player who’s surplus. Not to mention taking nearly £20m off the books. As much as we value our own players, I’d take it. There are probably 3-4 LBs in the world who could sell for £40-50m+ (non-Chelsea edition)
I was surprised last year when the idea of selling Tierney was first raised—but it now seems like an obvious even if painful move. As for selling to rivals, there are no other attractive choices. City made that leap (Chelsea with Sterling was a sale to a rival even if you discount Jesus and Zinny going to Arsenal). And I very much agree with your point about trying to treat departing players well. It’s the type of team that we want to be. Thanks.
