I totally share the frustration. As an American sports fan, I'm used to both the NFL's clearly defined designations and the NHL's completely mysterious "upper body" or "lower body" levels of injury description. Within the league, I probably care less about having clear injury reporting (I'm not a gambler). But I do wish there were strong standards as it relates to call-ups for international duty.

yeah agree, but even the NHL system is a step forward.

I'm a Brit with little interest in or knowledge of the NHL (although my UK son actually gets paid dollars for writing blogs on the Philadelphia Eagles!), and I have zero interest in gambling. But the potential for gambling abuse is huge here - so opaque and zero regulation. Surely this cannot continue. Nor should it. (PS: my son is also a fanatical Arsenal fan... but payment in this case is one way – from him to Arsenal for merchandise!)

Yes. It also opens up the potential for gamblers to look to cultivate inside sources and get that non-public information.

It’s a messy situation and one that with how tied the sport is to gambling (and I don’t think that’s stopping any time soon) is basically unavoidable right now.

The very same! Small world as they say. And he really is a fanatical Gooner, as well as a fanatical Philadelphia Eagles fan.

I was an NHL fan before coming to Premier League and yah, their system sucks. I like the NFL system, it isn’t perfect and it is a key component for opponents so I get the secrecy but some level of understanding would be helpful.

It is very different and wild to me that teams can basically say nothing or just make things up about injuries and that there are no standards.

Actually, I’m very proud of him. And he really is a fanatical Arsenal fan as indeed am I. Small world.

Ben, the very same! You don’t mean to tell me that his fame extends beyond his own bedroom.

The NFL comparison is a good one and I DO think it would represent an improvement, although as Americans know that system has lots of vagaries/gamesmanship as well. (Basically, I've come to understand "questionable" as will almost certainly play and "doubtful" as almost certainly out.)

Yeah it’s not quite like the old probable but still likely to get game time at questionable
