the best option is for saka (his right's rubbish, and there's no space for a left footed strike) to dummy by making an angled run toward eddie and the defending cb. this will create more space for a pass to odegaard positioned dead center in the box.
I wonder if Eddie is being trained or coached to have more confidence in taking shots from further out. This isn’t something he is known for - historically, he’s seen as a poacher. That goal he scored for his hatrick from outside the box was an outlier - although I may remembering wrong.
That would explain why Arteta applauded Eddie for trying the shot. I think making the pass would’ve been the right call, but if he is being coached to take more risks further out then it’s understandable why it happened the way it did.
yeah, I think at this point it might be who he is. You can seen players that over think it, trying to remember what they are instructed to do (cough Ramsdale) and get themselve in trouble.
He added value with the shot but maybe could have added more if he could execute the other choices (but maybe he can't or shouldn't be expected to).
I def yelled at my TV when he shot, mostly bc he had enough time while carrying the ball to look up and see his two teammates making runs.
In retrospect, I agree it was an ok decision to shoot. Just wish that if he’s going to shoot in this situation, use a body feint or eyes to at least make defenders and keeper think you’re considering the pass. My issue is more that it looked like he never even considered his options and was hellbent on shooting it himself. Which is my bigger problem with Eddie, he telegraphs his decisions so he never feels unpredictable

Going to be controversial and suggest that the pass to Trossard, who could have then had a pull back, would have been an even the better choice?
Interesting. Yeah that’s one that could happen to. Harder to game out given two further actions
