Will Gabriel Jesus' finishing doom him at Arsenal?
The issue with Gabriel Jesus for the longest time is that he is a below average finisher will this be something that always limits him and Arsenal.
That is a bit of a provocative headline but I think it is a relevant question given the reception that Jesus is getting after his performance at Southampton.
Against Southampton he had 4 shots, 2 big chances, and 0.7 expected goals. Most importantly to most fans he also had 0 actual goals. When you look at those chances it wouldn’t be crazy to think that could have been a brace or even a hat trick, even if the most likely occurrence was actually 0 goals.
Most times with this type of production a player will score at least 1 goal (55%) but still going away empty is something that we should expect about 45% of the time.
This has resurfaced some of the questions about Jesus and his finishing. This was something that dominated the discourse when he was first linked with Arsenal. I have already written pretty extensively on this but I think it is worth revisiting this now that he is an Arsenal player.
