World Cup Match Day 3

Day 3 is in the books and it was an exciting one.

The Matches

Morocco 0 (0.4)-(1.0) 0 Croatia

Unlike yesterday, my choice to not wake up at 2am didn’t bite me. It does not appear that a lot happened in this match. There was one big chance but outside of that just 2 other shots inside prime areas for both teams.

This sort of felt like both teams not wanting to lose.

Germany 1 (3.0)-(1.5) 2 Japan

The shock result of the day!

Germany dominated possession (74%) and territory (80% field tilt) but really struggled to make it count. This wasn’t exactly a situation of failing to make their possession count because they had a number of good chances in the match, creating 5 shots that were 15% or better (not counting the penalty).

Japan on the other hand looked like they messed up in the first half. They set out to defend and counter but they got pushed too far back and were pulled out of shape a bit too often.

In the second half they were able to bounce back and create significantly more threat on the counter and not be so pinned into their own defensive third.
